BIO

Erick Sanchez (born in Ponce, Puerto Rico in 1973) is an artist working and living between Miami and New York. His works encompass heavily textured immersive landscapes that explore ideals of the beginnings of us using abstract expression to reveal the immemorial. The monochromatic palette that Sanchez often uses, references the earthy tones around us with the deep texture of calligraphies scars creating a poetry-like moment of scriptural undertones. Seeking to create a glimpse of the creator’s original actions interpreting the universal vision. His materials include a wide variety of liquid and powder pigments, various acrylic mediums, emulsion, glitter, recycled materials, beads, copper, gold, and aluminum leaf. Sanchez’s work is featured in the permanent collection at the Tucson Museum of Arts and the Student League of New York. His various awards include The Artist in the Marketplace Program at the Bronx Museum of Art, the Curate NYC 2011 Program, The Ruth Katzmann Scholarship, The Fantasy Fountain Painting Grant, The Joan M. Rosenberg Memorial Scholarship, and The Jean Gates Fountain Painting Award. He has also been featured in numerous artist residences from The Institute for American Universities in Aix-en-Provence-France to The Ruth Katzman Vytlaci Residency in Spark-hill NY. Some consider Erick Sanchez at the forefront of redefining 21st-century landscape contemporary art.
