Rodolfo Edwards
Rodolfo Edwards, (born October 17th, 1981) is a Chilean Artist exploring geopolitical contemporary problems. As an artist and architect Edwards aims to depict the impact of today’s political interest in the development of major cities. The loss of heritage that goes into these projects of development and the social impacts in communities that follows. These multimedia pieces are personal archives from travel to major cities such as, New York, Shanghai, Beijing, São Paulo, & Rio de Janeiro, studying these photographs as a means to create an understanding of the relation between spacial construction and social impact on future generations.
Rodolfo earned his degree in Architecture and Urban planning at the Universidad Católica de Valparaíso Chile in 2007. As an Architect and Visual Artist, he combines his strong desire to project art through space.
He moved to New York City in 2010 to pursue a career in Visual Art; he was then invited to study at The Arts Student League of New York in the four-year program. While he was there, he received many grants, and invitations, such as a Merit Scholarship Award in 2011, and a Red Dot Award in 2012, which ultimately led him to be acquired into the Institute’s permanent collection. His work is also published in the league’s yearly prestigious magazine.
His pieces have been shown at The 2014 Southampton New York Art Fair, The 2013 Clio Art Fair, The 2012 Governors Island Art Fair, The 2012 Carpe Diem Art Fair at City Hall Philadelphia, The 2012 Bronx Latino American Biennial, The 2012 Pinta Art Fair New York, The 2012 Art Context Miami and Art Shanghai 2012. Currently, he has been working in Art Residence Programs, at Vermont Studio Center as of April 2017, but has also been traveling to create pieces in various locations including, Untitled Space. Shanghai. Eileen Kaminsky Residence in Nov 2017, New Jersey in 2018. Glo Art, Belgium in April-May 2018 and Agalab Residence in Amsterdam 2020.
